ISD (Intelligent Studio Devices) have developed and launched a new power supply module specifically designed for the discerning Avid S6 power user.
An after-market alternative to the standard Avid S6 power supplies which live hidden beneath the knob modules, one in each S6 ‘bucket’, the ISD S6 PSU is a 3rd Party, uprated option for those S6 users in need of redundancy, or simply a higher level of power provision, tolerance, control and management for their centrepiece console.
Other than S6 customers who are specifying custom configurations on a module-by-module basis (for example, those looking to expand an existing spec or build out the S6 segments of a hybrid DSP console) – there’s no way to not buy the built-in Avid PSUs, so this unit is an additional cost for those who require it.
If you’re buying S6 a-la-carte, however, the ISD S6 PSU is potentially a lower cost alternative.
Staged power-up sequences can alleviate issues with module IP address discovery, and the ability to easily switch off the power to an S6 will be a welcome function for many, in the absence of a master on/off switch on S6.
Housed in a 1U fanless rack unit external to the S6, ISD S6 PSU is a professional-spec power unit offering high quality, interference-free power for up to 24 x S6 modules per unit. Five 12V outputs on speakon connectors feed the S6 chassis.
In addition to providing an alternative to the multiple standard PSU’s, all ISD S6 PSU’s provide temperature and load monitoring along with error reporting via GPI/O. Integrated DHCP Server and remote admin access options are also available, as is a ‘Pro’ version with redundant power supplies.
For customers wishing to use the existing internal Avid S6 power cabling, an adaptor kit is offered. Alternatively the ISD Premium Wiring Kit includes a new speakon-equipped backplane panel ready-made to fit to the S6 chassis.
